Life around the globe has turned upside down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its social and economic consequences. People of all kinds and ages have been forced to adapt, and indigenous community is no different.
Most indigenous communities are facing unique barriers to access and opportunity, especially during this time of pandemic. Thus, the – ( -), in partnership with the and , has launched the , .
The activity seeks to provide a basic training course on computer and Internet essentials, computer hardware, networking and troubleshooting, document processing, electronic spreadsheet, and multimedia presentation.
together with the – – Team spearheaded the community-based training, bringing ICT equipment such as laptops to provide a maximum hands-on learning experience to the Aeta community.
Narrowing the gap of the digital divide would enable the indigenous youth to become more proficient in the use of technology and digital information. It is essential that these can also be received, understood and used by indigenous people.
The training was launched on July 18, 2022 and ran until July 22, 2022 at Brgy. Inararo, Porac, Pampanga. During the 5-day training, the team led by Engr. Nerve De Guzman and Engr. Randel Fajardo conducted introductory lectures on information and communications technology, computer essentials, internet and data privacy, and facilitated hands-on activities on laptop computer hardware and software. The IP Community of Brgy. Inararo had also been a beneficiary of the DICT’s Free Wifi Program installed last October 2, 2022.
A total of 35 IP Youths graduated from the Digital Literacy Training.
The program is just part of the continuing demonstration of the DICT Region III’s mission in preparing the youth for the digital future, bridging the digital divide and developing digitally inclusive communities.
