NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY AND INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE WORLD’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES – HON. SIMPLICIA P. HAGADA

NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY AND INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE WORLD’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
THEME: “The Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge”
“The role of indigenous women in the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge was emphasized today in the celebration of International Day of Indigenous Peoples. They play a vital role in the Indigenous Communities by caring for our practices, customs, and tradition. Adding to these is their role as leaders of our household, caregivers of our children and elders, and the chance to carry new generations into our community.
However, we can’t deny the apparent discrimination against our indigenous women. The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples acts as their guardians and partners to defend their rights through “RA 8371” or the Indigenous People’s Rights Act.
This International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, let us show true solidarity by acknowledging the contribution of our Indigenous women and let us continue working to end the inequality of all Indigenous Peoples.
Let us always recognize their hardship and adopt their shared wisdom.
Thank you very much and Mabuhay tayong mga Indigenous Peoples.”
