1 March 2024 | National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las flew to Utah, USA to participate in the largest genealogy event in the world hosted by Family Search Inc (FSI).
Family Search Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides free access to historical records to people all around the globe enabling them to link or trace their family history. Subsequently, Rootstech is a 3-day international family history conference that aims to provide platform for sharing stories, the latest news, techniques, and tools used in genealogy. The conference also features symposiums and classes related to genealogy.
To advocate the importance of genealogy to Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples, FSI invited Chairperson Sibug-Las as the champion for cultural and heritage preservation of the ICCs/IPs of the Philippines. Moreover, FSI featured its facilities to Chairperson Sibug-Las and discussed future projects for possible areas of collaboration with NCIP.
