
NCIP & DOT EXPLORATORY MEETING CONTINUES
28 February 2023 | The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) is continuously discussing the identification of tourism-related projects for the ICCs/IPs in the identified pilot areas in Region CAR, Region 2 and Region 13 for the Katutubo-KAPWA Project.
The NCIP Chairperson, Mr. Allen A. Capuyan and Commissioner, Bo-i Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las together with the representatives from OSESSC, LAO, OPPR, ADO and OECH warmly welcomed the delegation of the Department of Tourism headed by Director Annavie E. Bacomo-Lapitan of the Office on Special Concerns for their visit to NCIP.
During the meeting, Chairperson Capuyan briefly shared to DOT the various ICCs/IPs in the Philippines and gives an overview of the 13 economic drivers in the Ancestral Domains with huge potential to contributing to nation building, particularly on protection and promotion of arts and culture, the development of ecotourism destinations, and creation of cultural highways among others.
Aside from the projects for the ICCs/IPs, the two agencies also agreed to build a strong alliance by forging a Memorandum of Agreement to formalize their collaboration and solidify their partnership.
The Katutubo-KAPWA Project will be launched in May 2023, thus, the NCIP and DOT hopes to seal the partnership and ink the MOA in April 2023.
Representatives from NCIP Region CAR, Region 2 and Region 13 also joined the meeting via zoom platform.
