The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Region 3 mourns the passing of former President Fidel V. Ramos who died today 31 July, 2022. During his term the passage of Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA / RA 8371) was signed into law (29 October 1997) and declared every 29th of October until November 4 every year thereafter as “Indigenous Peoples Week” through Proclamation No. 1124, s.1997.
The passage of IPRA is significant to every ICCs/IPs because they can enjoy the four bundles of rights, namely:
1. Rights to Ancestral Domain
2. Rights to Self-Governance and Empowerment
3. Rights to Social Justice and Human Rights
4. Rights to Cultural Integrity
Ramos, who served as 12th President of the Philippines died today due to Covid-19 at the age of 94. Our deepest condolences to family of former President Ramos. The NCIP Region 3 and the ICCs/IPs of Central Luzon are forever grateful for your service.
Maraming Salamat Pangulong FVR!
